"We started with no funds and a year later we are extremely excited to be donating $61,000 back to... The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital Foundation, the Ian Anderson House Foundation and the OPFFA Sponsorship Fund," said Helena Thompson, calendar fundraising co-ordinator. "Extreme Heat Alert Events were held throughout the year offsetting the production costs of the calendar enabling 100 per cent of every calendar sale to be donated to charity." The Oakville firefighters worked in partnership with the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides earlier last year to produce its 2013 charity calendar, which was officially released in September 2012 -- each month of the calendar features an Oakville firefighter and a future Dog Guide puppy. The Oakville Firefighters Calendar also had its own Facebook page to help spread the word, which received more than 34,500 hits from across the world during Dec. 26-27, 2012. "We are tremendously grateful for the magnificent community support that we received," Thompson said. "We would not have been so successful without the generous support from local businesses and the community behind us." The OPFFA is already moving forward in preparation for the 2014 charity calendar kickoff set for sometime in April. Monthly sponsorships are available, while prize donations and gift certificates are also needed.
