The Canadian Champion, Friday, September 8, 2006 - A3 Project Safe Start targets unsafe drivers By Stephanie Thiessen CANADIAN CHAMPION STAFF Wednesday wasn't a good day for the 10 or so drivers pulled over that morning by a traffic enforcement offi- cer with yours truly peeking over his shoulder. Just ask the young, smartly-dressed woman in oversîzed sunglasses who was motioned to the side of the road at about 10 a.m. As she put out ber cigarette, Halton Regional Police Const. Gary Schultz approached ber four-dloor Honda Civic and she rolled down the window. Her explanation didutt go far. "You're driving mn a school zone," Schultz replied. "Its well posted." Clocked by radar at 71 km in a 50 km/h community safety zone - wbicb means fines are doubled - this woman started ber day with a $197.50 ticket. Other drivers were lucky enough to he let off witb wamings. Ticketed or not, everyone wbo trav- eled west along Main Street near Bisbop Reding School Wednesday morning was at the very least reminded by the cruiser's presence to slow dlown.
