The Canadian Champion, Tuesday, October 31, 2006 - A9 HIGH SCHOOL REP ORT ti4kAiiv -f/(W-gÀ "MUSTANG MESSENGER" Megan Cheema Harbi Nati Couriney CouIombe MILTON DISTRICT 1101 SCEGOL Ghosts and witches and goblins, oh my! The Halloween spirit is making its way ail through Milton District! Yesterday the day began with our annual pumpkin carving contest! Ail of the students in each homeroom put their creative and crazy ideas together to come up with some of the scariest, funniest and most bizarre jack-o-lanterns we have ever seen! Ail of finished projects were displayed in the front foyer for ail to admire. Prizes were even awarded for pumpkins in different categories, such as funniest, scariest and best overall. But the fun didn t stop at pumpkin carving! Ail of the students had their choice of dressing up in their Halloween costumes yesterday or today and many students took advantage of the opportunity. We had ail sorts of creatures and characters roaming the halls ail day and there will be many more today! The Yearbook Committee even offered students an opportunity to have some pictures taken of groups posing in their costumes, ail for just five bucks! Now what is Halloween without candy? We couldn't miss the best part of the holiday! The student government has been selling candy gramns for the past two weeks and it was finally the time to hand them ail out. Chocolates and lollypops were delivered to the recipients and chocolate-covered, snmiling faces thanked each other for the treats. What a way to say Happy Halloween to ail your friends! Last Friday, many 'ghosts' of Milton returned for the Commencement ceremony. It was a night where last year's graduates were given their diplomas, recognized for their academic accomplishments and ail got together one last time at M.D. It was one last time the senior football team played last week as they closed off their 2006 season. The junior Stangs finished off a spectacular regular season on Thursday and headed right into the playoffs with the game yesterday against Burlington Central. Go Blue! Walking around town, hearing the leaves crinkle under your feet, and the weather getting colder each day, you can definitely feel the shift into winter coming soon. Along with cold weather comes Canada's favourite sport... hockey! The SAA is already planning a trip to see the Mississauga Ice Dogs in action at the Hershey Centre in December. For now, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves! Let's focus on having a very Happy Halloween! Remember to stay safe, try to keep warm, and eat lots of chocolate! "DATELINE DRURY" Ashley Michelle Stephen Carlisie Staples Jackson E.C. DRURT HIen SCHG01. Hello again! A little less frustrated this time around, we are pulling it together like a true team. Your entrusted group has been out in the field gathering information to bring it to you FIRST! (luckily for you, only weekly) Here's our update in sports. Our junior ladies field hockey team is holding on proudly to the first place title, proving that our Spartan girls can hold their own (sticks) with the best of them. They've dominated both home ground and foreign lands. Nothing can hold our ladies back now, and what could be better than chicks with sticks? DODGEBALL! Back to our pre-school days....or last week.... A wicked grin slid over Jeremy's face as the dodgeball flew from his hands and into the losing team's face, a point of glory for our boys on the courts. Team Punishment consisted of Shawn Aguiar, Mike Brown, Greg Cooper, Jeremy Hamilton, Jeff Lynch, and Nick Ronan. Our fine players will be holding the E.C. Drury flags hight Iroquois Ridge for a Dodgeball Championship! We will be showing the big boys how to dodge a wrench. But who knows how to dodge a wrench better than a senior in auto class, fighting over who gets to tighten the next bolt on the '71 Chevelle? Car restoration is an annual project for the senior auto class, and tiis year's project will be the aforementioned Chevelle. Though the task at hand seems to be particularly daunting as the car seems to presently lack a front end. However we have faith in our grease monkeys to bring this baby back up to speed. We have also noticed that the school's infamous locker bay has felt a little empty lately. It started to make sense when we discovered the three field trips going on one day after the other. First in line was a trip to go see the musical 'Wicked', led by the music classes. After that it was an adventure by the senior history class to see 'Marie Antoinette' in theatres ai Square 1. They claim it was to support their learning of the French Revolution. The last field trip is for the senior exercise science class to go see the Olympic High Performance Testing and Sports Medicine Centre in Toronto. Students are finding themselves surprised to once again face a full day of school upon returning from their trips. In conclusion, we here ai E.C. Drury have only one thing to say to our flanking schools, na na na na na!!! "TUE ROYAL REPORT" Ein Hetherington Lindsay Johnslon Julia RiddeIl BISNOP REDING SIG SCIOL OH NO! Bishop Reding has been overrun with witches, zombies, and... Sailor Moon!? Wait a second, that's just BR students showing their Halloween creativity and spirit. Today, students were invited to dress to the nines and become someone (or something...) completely different. A huge number of students dressed up, and the best of each homeroom class were invited to compete in the cafeteria for the prize of Best Costume. Thanks to everyone who dressed up, and keep reading to hear about all the other great Halloween activities that have been happening. This Halloween has definitely been one of the best, and we owe a lot of our thanks to student government. Last Tuesday through Thursday, the Simpson's Tree House of Horror was played during lunches in the cafeteria. On Friday, Edward Scissorhands was played at lunch, and everyone seemed to enjoy a little Tim Burton in their day. We had the classic BR Haunted House, with a few new twists, today during both lunches. It was great to see terrified students fleeing from the grasp of monsters and the clouds of smoke and then watching them re-enter the Haunted House for a second time. To top it off, Halloween day included pumpkin carving, which resulted in messy classrooms and wide grins. We've mentioned the ghouls and goblins in the haunted house, the creepy movies and the classic Halloween trivia; it would seem as though we've covered everything to do with th1s spooky holiday. In fact, we missed one key element: mischief. There was a lot of mischief to be had when our very own Ms. Kuch was kidnapped! Monday during the CSI scavenger hunt, teans of four raced to solve the case. It turns out it was simply our own Sami Akiki, desperate to become Student of the Month. The teams, along with student govemment, were relieved to find Ms. Kuch alive and well! New to Bishop Reding is the introduction of Fun Fridays! Student Government will kick off the first Fun Friday on November 10 with a "Bop'It" contest. More events including video games, movies, and games all through third and fourth lunches are still to come. If anyone has ideas for activities on Fun Fridays, please post them on the Student Govemment board outside the Tuck Shop, or talk to your grade rep. Bishop Reding sure is having a lot of fun this year, and there's definitely more to come. Your Inside Sources are glad that everyone had a fun day today, and we wish everyone a safe and fun Halloween. Trick or Treat!! - ýORT
