The Canadian Champion, Fniday, March 16, 2007 - A3 Provincial boan paves way for major Roxul expansion Local insulation manufacturer Roxul Inc. announced its plans yesterday momning for a $135 million plant expansion thatîIl double the size of its current production facility and see the creation of 100 jobs. "Today the people of Milton can celebrate this win for their local community," said Jean-Marc Lalonde, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, at a press conference at the Harrop Drive facifity. Tbis project bas been made possible by a $10 million loan from tbe provincial goveroment througb its Advanced Manufacturing Investment Strategy (AMIS), wbicb provides repayable boans - interest free for up to, five years - to sup- port investments in technology and innovation. "That's a terrifie vote of confidence in the workers of this plant, the Milton community and the province," Lalonde said. Ground will be broken this summer, witb the expansion - wbicb will bning thse facility to 700,000 square feet - expected to be completed in early 2009. Thse new production line - adjacent to ils current facili- ty - will manufacture a range of new commercial, mndustri- aI and residential insolation products. ItîIl include tbe devel- opment of leading-edge manufactuning processes that con- serve energy andl generate zero waste wbile using recycleil waste materials from thse steel andl construction industries. Roxul's new production line will be fitted witb state-of- tIse-art technologies tol provide the most effective emnission controls. "WIsiIe our production output is expected tol triple, our total emissions will be less than Isaîf of tIse provincial limits," said Roxul president Trent Ogilvie. A total of 232 jobs will be created or retained thanks to tbe expansion over a five-year period. Additional jobs will be created thruugb the construction phase. Roxul is part of Rockwool International, tIse world's largest producer of mineral wool insulation.
