SATV drivers destroying private property:. police By Robin Downton-Poirier SPECIAL TO THE CHAMPION Theres a serious probiem in Nassagaweya witb al-terrain vebicles (ATVs), say Haton Regional Police. Tbey're receiving numerous compiaints of excessive noise and property damage and ATVs being used on roads, said Staff Sgt. Susan Deianey "The probiem with these vebicles is they are exactly that, vehicies, not toys, and are subject to many rules and regulations,- she said. "They are [un and useful recreationai vehicies but can aiso be dangerous and destructive if flot driven properly and in appropniate places." One resident, wbo wisbed not to be named, said be can bear many ATVs on tbe back portion of bis property, primarily late in tbe afternoon and tbrougbout tbe weekends. Due to difficuity of accessing the back of the property witb a regular vebicie, catching the culprits is difficuit. "We can bear them at the back of our property - tbey are so loud," tbe Nassagaweya resident said. It began in eariy spring and there just seems to be more and more of them. We posted 75 'No Trespassing' signs and, wben we went out there a few weeks iater, over threc quarters of îherm were gonc and the rest were bent and twisted. We put a fence Up to prevent them rom coming on the property, but they removed it as well as cut- ting down some of our trees. It really makes me angry that people would have 50 littie respect for someone elses property" The resident said the noise and property damage are flot bis oniy concerns. He bas bheard sbots fired in the wooded portion of bis property and has found shotgun casings. He fears for the safety of his cildren as well as the wildife that frequent bis property Tbe resident said that access is being gained [rom the hydro, rigbt-of-way on First Line in Nassagaweya and that a makeshift ATV course had been set up. He believes many of the people using it are flot resdents and park along First Line to unload their ATVs. He has asked the police and Ward 3 Councillor Jan Mowbray for help in stop- ping people rom trespassing on his proper- ty. Mowbray asked for support [rom the Town of Mlton and it has agreed to recom- mend a'no stopping' bylaw on First Line 50 people can't park and unload their ATVs, she said. This could take a littie time to put in place. "Town staff has agreed to, support erecting no stopping' signs but ail new signs require esee NO on page A17 Lot. cdl4pw ~ior c usultant poevlde you ,.fth addll*,uiaI lafoimatlon - wafer I botter waWeL pure anidsimple I u CALL LINDA AT:o 416m938&5736 MILTON
