When the resident left the club, she heard a window smash and saw a man reach inside a vehicle and remove a purse. Murray recorded the suspect's licence plate and later that evening police made an arrest and recovered a quantity of stolen property. Jennifer Hartman received an award for devoting countless hours to serving as a Neighbourhood Watch block captain. Police also recognized Sharon McGregor for passionately speaking during their impaired driving campaigns about the death of her 17year-old son Matthew, who was killed in 2010 in an impaired driving accident. Other heroes singled out during the evening Citizens, officers recognized for bravery at police awards included constables David Ellsworth and Ken MacDonald and nurse Coleen Williams. In the late evening hours of Nov. 21, Ellsworth and MacDonald were called after a distraught 63-year-old man fled Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. The nurse followed the man and provided constant updates regarding his location. Ellsworth and MacDonald caught up to the man at the foot of Allan Street as he waded into the frigid waters of Lake Ontario. After attempts to talk the man out of the lake failed, Ellsworth entered the chest-high water as MacDonald monitored closely. Ellsworth restrained the man and brought him ashore. On April 22, 2012, shortly after 8:30 p.m., po- lice were called to the train trestle overtop Cross Avenue where a man was threatening to jump. Constables Pidberezny, Proulx and Sergeant Lowe got to the scene and began speaking with the man. The officers were able to keep the man talking until a team of trained negotiators (Hughes, Alexander and Tidball) arrived. These officers took over communications with the man and eventually convinced him to accompany them off the bridge.
