FRESH FROM OUR Police nab accused in the creek Three people face numerous charges following a home invasion on Bond Street early Saturday morning. After forcing their way into the home, three suspects, one armed with a hammer, had a fight with three residents before fleeing with an assortment of jewelry and other personal property, say Halton police. Responding officers cordoned off the area and brought in a police dog to search for the suspects who were found in Sixteen Mile Creek. Police commandeered a neighbour's rowboat to make the arrest. A search by the police marine unit resulted in the recovery of the victim's jewelry. Mumin Mian, 18, of Oakville, Chris John-Baptiste, 23, of Toronto and a young person who cannot be identified because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act are facing numerous charges including break and enter, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon and wearing a disguise during the commission of an offence. A male resident of the home was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Police said this incident was not related to a May 14 home invasion on Nelson Street. The man gives the victim a claim number and instructs them to go to the closest Western Union and send $300 to another party in West Mooreland, Jamaica so the prize can be shipped. The senior is then asked to call the suspect back so he can arrange delivery of the prize. At this point, the person on the phone asks for the victim's personal information such as their name, age, marital status and address. The prizes promised never arrive. Police are reminding seniors not to provide anyone with personal information over the telephone unless they themselves initiate the call.
