JERRED, Rodney Glenn It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Rod on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the age of 58 with his beloved wife Kathy of 27 years by his side. His "Bonus Days" were suddenly cut short after losing his battle with melanoma. He was the loving father of sons Mark Robson and Brennan Jerred. Predeceased by his parents Bruce and Winifred Jerred, in-laws Henry and Anita Wilson, nephew Dane Jerred and 4 brother and sister in-laws. He will fondly be remembered by his brother Kim Jerred (Michelle), numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and his four legged friend Teddy with special memories of dressing up as Santa at the annual family Christmas party. With sociology studies at the University of Regina to his credit, Rod graduated from Sheridan College and took a string of journalism jobs. Eventually he settled at the Oakville Beaver for three decades and became the managing editor. Under his direction, the paper won best overall newspaper in Ontario four years in a row. He took on a new challenge becoming the managing editor of four community newspapers at Hamilton Community News before being diagnosed with melanoma a year later. Over the years, Rod has worked with many charitable organizations, both as an advisor and a volunteer. The family received friends at the SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME , 454 Highway #8, Stoney Creek, Ont, on Tuesday, March 5th, from 6-8:30 p.m and Wednesday March 6th from 3-5 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday March 7th at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
