L*I L d j ufvw W Must ive morwara or ivove uUt MILTON This advertisement was created prior to the fire at our sanctuary on June 3Oth. We would like to take this opportunity to thank members of our community and the area churches for their support and qood wishes. In spite of this event we stili want to share why we are applyinq for a demolition permit. In 2007 the Town ordered St. Paul's to close its sanctuary because the roof was unsafe. Temporary support columns were installed to allow the congregation time to decide its future. Within the last 9 months, we have received two structural engineers' reports confirming that the sanctuary roof is in distress. For continued safe occupancy the roof needs major repairs witbin the next year. The congregation decided that our facility was at the end of its useful lite and we could no longer continue to fund expensive and ongoing build- ing repairs. This decision was not made lightly. We have spent over four years in discussion, consideration, listening and prayer. Due to our limited financial resources and the desire to remain a downtown church, the congregation approved partnering with a developer. We were fortunate to find a partner who will build a new church and lite lease residence while retaining many heritage elements of the sanctuary. The project provides a financial arrangement that St. Paul's can afford. At the conclusion of the project, St. Paul's will retain ownership of the entire facility. We are saddened to say goodbye to our beautiful old sanctuary but are excited to have a new cburch facility which allows us to fulfill our Christian mission as a welcoming, transforming and serving congregation. We a.sk you for your understanding and support as St. Paul's pursues iLs plan to remain a vibrant downtown congregation. -St. PauI's UJnited Church Council il
