The previous week, students from the World Issues class ventured down 1o Toronto to see the Dalai Lama do a presentation on World Peace at the Rogers Center. One of the Dalai Lama's main messages was on the importance of achieving inner peace. Many of the students felt inspired with his words and motivated to act from his teachings. Another event held at the Rogers Center took place on September 30th, where thirteen students were chosen to attend the annual WE DAY in Toronto. Free The Children created this event to celebrate the power of young people to create positive change in the world. The event is held in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. Moving from the social actions of E.C Drury towards the ecological actions, there is a new project that has started called the Safe E Waste Drop Off Site. It was created by three students who did a project on electronic waste disposal who found negative environmental implications mainly in underdeveloped countries, and wanted to help. Donna Taylor, the princi- pal, agreed to have a safe drop off site for students and staff to bring their old, broken electronics. The electron- ics are then transported to Toronto to an individually owned company that properly recycles the electronics right in the warehouse in Toronto. Soon within E.C.Drury, there will be many guest speakers, a documentary by the GayStraightAlliance group, and Spartan sport events. Stay tuned readers. E.C. DRURY HIn SCR06
