Well, Milton resident Steve Liddell dis- covered bis habit of doing this was ruining bis "business ventures, relationsbips and t'riendsb ips, - ot to niention hi', hie, andi unwiuîingly decided to do somietbing about 't. .One nigbt wben be couldn't get back to sleep after bis daugbter woke bim up, Liddell began writing. After eontinuing this on a number of sieepless nigbts be slowly became conscious of the fact tbat at the root of ail bis lifes ilis was bis failure to, be bonest - not only witb the world - but also witb bimself. Writing therapeutic Soon tbese diary entries, wbicb initially began as an exercise to, write down bis inner- most tbougbts, slowly tumned into its own animai, or beast, depending on bow you look at it. 1I always knew that t wasn't being bonest witb myseif or otber people, but wben 1 started writing about it 1 reaiized bow important tbis was. Soon wbat i was writing became so in-deptb it turned into a book called bonest Lee," said the 36-year-old father of two. Now, four years after spending countless bours and sulfering numerous beadaches trying to get bis book pubiisbed, then final- ly spending about $10,000 to publisb it bint- self, Liddell bas sold about 1,000 copies and bas officially broken even. As a direct resuit of the book, he said he bas now turned his woodworking career *into more of a part-time gig, and has re-[ocused his attention on the notoriously risky lufe of house-flipping. On top of this, Liddell has corne good on many of his books musings - by being hon- est with ail his friends - most of which have subsequently stopped speaking with bim. "The book foliows my journey asi become more open with others and hrutaliy harsh on myseif." Before writing the book Liddell said he had an "epiphany" of sorts that helped him on bis joumey. While drivrng home one day he witnessed a car accident on Hwy. 427. 1I saw someone die," he said. "That made me start wondering about bis life. 1I wondered wbat bis day was like? 1 won- dered if he bated bis day and then died at the end of it?" He said it was that event whicb made him realize he didn't want to reach the end of bis life without being bimself. He added: "1 wanted people to know who 1 was. Before then i had neyer shown it. i wanted to be someone witb a purpose, a rea- son." But wben it came to sbaring bis journey witb the worid, it proved a difficuit venture, as publishers and bookstores weren't ininialiy very beipful. So Liddell used bis imagination.
