Mill Road developer working with residents by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 19 | Thursday, May 30, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com The Apache Development Company says it is willing to work with residents to smooth out some of the issues they have with a nine-storey mixed-use building Apache has proposed for 70 Old Mill Rd. More than 100 area residents were at the Town of Oakville's Planning and Development Council meeting recently to make sure their points of view were heard on the matter. Apache is asking council for a zoning bylaw amendment so it can build the nine-storey develDo you know how your opment, which would include garden 29 residential units, up to 2,300 grows? square metres of office space and up to 930 square metres for comKnow Your mercial uses. The development would also Source have 82 parking spaces. No decision regarding whether the project will be allowed to go ahead was made Tuesday with the evening simply being about receiving feedback from the public. · · · Trafalgar-Chartwell Residents' SOILS MULCHES AGGREGATES ROCKERY Association vice-president Peter DeRosa said he had no issue with development taking place at the site, but called for a number of changes to what is being proposed. These changes included Apache building 157 parking spaces instead of 82, that the building be all residential and that it be restricted to six storeys in height. "This would mitigate most of the traffic, access and circulation issues brought on by the commercial component of the development," said DeRosa. "It should also conform to the Livable Oakville Plan, respecting streetscape and conformity with the area south of the train station." Not everyone took issue with the proposal. One area resident said he supported Apache's plan as the long-term economic future of Oakville is dependent on these types of projects. The Town's Manager of Current Planning Gabriel Charles said in his report to council the proposed development is located in midtown Oakville, an area that is intended to accommodate a significant portion of future population and economic growth. A representative from Apache pointed out the area is zoned high density residential, the current zoning does permit developments as high as 12-storeys and her client is asking for far less commercial space than what is currently permitted. That said the representative noted Apache is willing to look at options, including possibly reducing the amount commercial space currently proposed. The matter is expected to come back to council in early September. 1 Yard Soil Sacs $ from delivered starting + taxes & deposit. 99 Cash & Carry Bags of most products available. www.oakvillebeaver.com LINGTON BUR GARDEN SUPPLIES LIMITED 905-336-7725 2273 Dundas St., Burlington, ON VISIT US AT burlingtongardens.ca Southern Ontario's LARGEST Triple Mix Pine Mulch dealer 24" x 24" Patio Slabs $5.89 ea Cedar, Black & Red Mulch ¾ Crush Gravel SAVE 10% 34 $ 42 $ 49 $ 3750 $ /yd /yd /yd /yd YOU CALL ..
