Stride to Turn the Tide Oakville-based oomama is joining four other grandmothers' groups in participating in the fourth annual Stride to Turn the Tide national fundraising walk Saturday, June 8. Oomama, along with Burlington Ubuntu Grandwomen, Blooms for Africa, Halton Bronte Grandmothers and North Halton Grannies, will join the more than 200 grandmothers and "grandothers" at Heritage Place, 4151 Kilmer Dr., in Burlington in solidarity and support of African grandmothers. The groups join thousands of grandmothers across Canada, walking to build awareness about the HIV/AIDS pandemic while raising funds to support African grandmothers and the children in their care. All funds raised from the 2013 walk will go towards the Stephen Lewis Foundation's Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. Registration costs $25 and will be open at 8:30 a.m. on the day, with a group warm-up, cadet corps march and African drumming -- a post-walk barbecue celebration will follow.
