The community theatre group is hosting its Entertaining Shorts, featuring three short plays, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (June 7-9). There will be a total of five showings, featuring matinee and evening performances. The shows will feature Minced, written by Oakville's Peter Gruner, and The Funeral Dance and Honey I'm Home, written by Burlington's George Marciniak. Minced is a one-act play that won best of fringe at the 2011 Hamilton Fringe Festival. It will be directed by Tom Mackan and features the performances of Dia Frid and Tamara Kamermans. The play is about a cantankerous woman who wants to pass on the secret family recipe for minced meat pie before she dies and her guilt-ridden daughter who wants to mend the relationship with her mother. The Funeral Dance and Honey I'm Home will both be directed by the Burlington playwright. Both are 10 minutes long. The Funeral Dance will feature actors Tamara Lopez and Kayla McCall. It is comedy about a woman learning about her husband's secrets at his funerals. Honey I'm Home features actors Susan Finlayson, Robert Laszcz, Wendy Oughtred and Dave Paul. The play is also a comedy. A woman is surprised by the appearance of her dead husband as he is filling time before he boards the bus Burl-Oak Theatre Group is presenting its three-play performances, titled Entertaining Shorts, this weekend. Hip-hop artist headlines Summer Tune Up Celebrate Seniors' Month Local young people have a chance to get ready for summer with a concert put on by their peers. The Town of Oakville is hosting its annual Summer Tune Up showcase at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre, 2302 Bridge Rd., on Thursday, June 13. The concert is geared towards youths aged 13 to 19 and will feature performances by 10 young local musicians. Hip-hop artist Deshaun Clarke will headline the performance. The 16-year-old can be recognized for his hit song Turnt Up. At Summer Tune Up, he will perform a sneak peak of his new EP titled Don't Sleep. Four singles from the album are available on iTunes. The Toronto-born artist launched his career as an actor by appearing in the 2008 Hollywood film The Incredible Hulk as well as the Disney movie Frenemies. As a professional street dancer, Clarke won first place in the The World of Dance in 2012 and Vybe Dance Academy, All Styles in 2012. He has also performed as a back up dancer for musician Alicia Keys. The concert runs from 7-10 p.m. Tickets cost $6 and are available at the door. The Chronicles of Future's Past photo exhibit is coming to the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre as a celebration of June as Seniors' Month. The exhibit is viewable from June 11-27 at the Oakville community centre. It is also viewable at the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital's auditorium June 10 and 11. The exhibit is brought to town by iCare Home Health in collaboration with Sheridan College Elder Research Centre. The show features the works of award-winning photographer with art by Jerry Friedman Jerry Friedman, who photographed "supercentenarians", individuals who are 110 years old or older. Friedman also incorporates a little piece of the individuals' lives in his photos. The exhibit has been seen in Tokyo, Amsterdam, Washington, Boston, New York City and beyond.
