Two young Oakville musicians will be competing in the national final of the Canadian Music Competition (CMC) in Sherbrooke, Quebec later this month. The competition runs from June 21-July 4. Oakville violinist Ji Soo Choi and pianist Scott Downing will be among a group of nearly 60 musicians from southern Ontario who are headed to the national competition for classical musicians under the age of 30. Approximately 200 musicians (instrumentalists and vocalists) from across the country, some as young as seven years old, will compete against each other before a panel of judges. They advanced Young musicians headed to Canadian Music Competition final to the national finals through regional and provincial competitions. The winners will share a total of more than $100,000 in scholarship money to help them further their musical education.
