www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, June 13, 2013 | 16 Deerfield should be left untouched: McIsaac continued from p.14 For Deerfield, located adjacent to the MidHalton Water Pollution Control Plant, all three options would see the area used for employment development. McConnell said land uses in this area could include warehousing, office developments and indoor manufacturing. "We're not looking at heavy industrial uses," he said. McIsaac was not impressed by the proposals. He said many seniors enjoy using these golf courses stating the activity not only gives them something to do, but allows them to get out and be social. He also voiced concerns about what would happen to the local wildlife, including deer, which make the Deerfield green space their home. "It seems incredible that in a country as large as this one we are insisting on having everyone live on top of each other. I don't quite get why we wouldn't spread out a little bit," said McIsaac. "The traffic is getting so bad in these areas because they just keep adding more into it and there is nowhere to add anymore roads. If you just keep adding more people and more houses and more cars and keep removing green space you are just adding more pollution." The land Deerfield Golf Course is on is owned by Infrastructure Ontario, which is currently seeking to redesignate the property so it can be sold. If this happens, McIsaac, who has worked at Deerfield for 24 years, said he and the golf course's other employees will be looking for new jobs. "I just don't want to see Deerfield destroyed and turned into more commercial properties. Why do we need more commercial properties in this town," McIsaac asked. "I don't get how expanding the town at the rate we are doing it at is making this a better place to live. I just think we are taking away from everything that made this place such a great place to live." McIsaac's opinion that Deerfield should be left untouched is shared by the newly-formed Fourteen Mile Creek Residents' Association. When asked what is stopping the Town from introducing planning guidelines that would direct the two golf courses to be left as is, McConnell noted the Livable Oakville Official Plan has designated these lands as a special policy area requiring further study to allow for future development. He also said the Halton Regional Official Plan Amendment 38 has listed these lands as having development potential. THE PRICE ON OUR FLOOR IS THE PRICE TO YOUR DOOR!
