The Red Devils finished first in their pool with two wins and a tie in three games, then blanked the Cumberland Cobras 1-0 in the semifinals before dropping the shootout decision to Nepean Hotspurs S.C. The teams played to a 1-1 stalemate through regulation and extra time, with Oakville tying the game in the second half and Sports Briefs hitting the crossbar in overtime. The second-place showing excited Red Devils coach Phillip Martino. "Our athletes' commitment and dedication to their training sessions all fall and winter was the driving force behind their success," Martino said. "The coaching staff is extremely proud of the girls' accomplishment." Members of the team are Ashley Diana, Marta Tkaczuk, Sarita Macaldaz, Hannah Baillie, Megan Harrison, Jessica Twerdun, Melissa Misztal, Chantal Pande, Carter Merrigan, Emma Guerin, Hannah Ritchie, Lexi Noden, Julianna Martino, Lauren Georgopoulos, Kathryn Manarin and Shannon Charters. George Georgopoulos and Mark Twerdun also coach the team. Bantam Titans win home opener The Oakville bantam Titans won their first home game of the football season at Bronte Athletic Field, pasting the visiting Vaughan Rebels 37-0. Dante Iacoviello tossed touchdown passes to Ben Percival and John Nikolovski, and Nikilovski added another major with a oneyard run. Oakville's other TDs came on a 41-yard sweep by James Traynor and a 68-yard interception return by Nick Mardner. Davis Boulding, Iacoviello and Mardner also scored two-point conversions. Juvenile Venom champs in Hamilton The Oakville Venom juvenile boys basketball team recently concluded the regular season by winning Division 3 gold at the Blessed Sacrament tournament in Hamilton. Oakville went 3-1 in pool play before beating the Toronto Triple Threat 63-54 in the final. Members of the team are Mithun Vijayasekar, Isaac Mununga, Eli Rodney, Liam Fitzpatrick, Ryan Newman, Keegan Borges, Theo Will-Dryden, Trenton Ford, Keltrid Ramadani, Thomas Evers, Perry Wyslobicky and Jared Znak. Coaches are Sieg Will and Jason Rodney.
