We have many activities sure to keep kids busy and our branches are a great way to escape the heat with your little ones on those piping hot days. Our TD Summer Reading Program is already underway and continues until Friday, Aug. 23. Kids and their parents can register for the club online at www. opl.ca with your library card or you can visit your local branch. Our theme this year is GO. Get out there and explore, cool books and reading adventures await you. By reading this summer, kids can earn cool prizes -- towards the end of the summer, they will also receive a special gift. Please visit the website to find out how to register, to view the cool video created by the film students of White Oaks Secondary School and for further information including drop-in activities at the branches. Our TD Summer Reading Club encourages youths to have fun while they read and helps ensure they maintain their reading and skill level achieved at the end of the school year. Whether your child loves to read or is a little less enthusiastic, our Summer Reading Club will invigorate and reward their individual achievements while promoting high self-esteem. We are grateful to our sponsors this year who provide the fantastic incentive prizes for the club: African Lion Safari, YMCA of Oakville, McDonald's, Halton Conservation and Friends of the Oakville Public Library. The library also offers awesome programs and materials for children over the summer months; many book kits and our new Enviro-packs for kids are available at all library branches. The Enviro-packs are a joint venture with the Town of Oakville Environmental Policy Department to provide kids with fun, easy to use activities and information on local wildlife, recycling, wise energy use and climate change. These learning kits are suitable for kids, families and educators and can be found by searching the catalogue for `Enviro-packs.' -- Submitted by the Oakville Public Library
