Adopt-a-thon seeks forever homes for older, forgotten felines Older cats need love too. That's the message the Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS) wants to convey this weekend, as it holds an adopt-a-thon for cats that are more than eight years old or have been in the shelter's care for six months or more. The cost to adopt these cats has been lowered to $75. This includes spaying or neutering, all up-to-date vaccines, microchipping, six weeks of free pet insurance and a small bag of Hills Science Diet cat food. The OMHS also will be extending its weekend hours for the adopt-a-thon -- today (Friday) from noon-10 p.m., Saturday from noon-7 p.m. and Sunday from noon-5 p.m. Spring and summer are very busy times for the OMHS, as kittens become part of the shelter family. Older cats and those that have been living at the shelter for an extended period of time may soon be overlooked again in favour of a kitten. "Because we are so committed to each cat that comes into our care, some may be part of our shelter family for a very long time," said OMHS executive director Kim Millan.
