With just weeks left to go, rumblings are many in the community where residents are anxious to hear details of the festival -- this will be the first Oakville Waterfront Festival since the original event was cancelled for financial reasons in 2009, This re-imagined festival will take place on the civic long weekend as opposed to late June and it promises to feature a wide variety of activities and gourmet food courtesy of a fleet of 16 to18 Ontario Food Trucks. One tradition, Smith said this festival will honour is the offering of top tier music. In the past, the Oakville Waterfront Festival has hosted bands and artists including: Hedley , Jan Arden, Tom Co- New Waterfront festival promises not to disappoint -- chair chran, Jesse Cook, Finger Eleven, Great Big Sea, Alannah Miles, Jully Black, Blue Rodeo, Colin James and Ill Scarlet. While Smith said it is too soon to give names, as contracts are still being finalized, he did say residents would not be disappointed this year. "We've got a very high quality level of music. When the names come out people will go, `That's pretty good for a free festival,'" he said. "We're paying a pretty good chunk of money for that. It's no fun putting on crappy bands, even if it is free. Who wants to listen to that?" The main stage entertainment will be taking place throughout the day , all weekend long. The Vendor Village, featuring the work of local artisans and products from local merchants, will also return to the festival. Smith said there will be lots for kids to do, including interactive experiences and games, an arts and crafts area and rides courtesy of Ponies `R' Us and Robertson Amusements. Those who attend can also help contribute to the new Oakville hospital by purchasing lemonade from Jack's Lemonade Stand. For adults, the event will feature Peller Estates Wine and local craft breweries such as Old Brewing Co., Nickel Brook, Cameron's and Trafalgar Ales and Meads. "People will be able to drink beer and wine in the park without having to drink in a beer tent," said Smith. "It's wide open. I think we are the first ones in Oakville to get that kind of liquor licence. That means a father can have a beer and the kid doesn't have to sit in a beer tent." As a big free festival comes with a big cost, Smith said, Celebrate Oakville has found some big sponsors, including Willson International, Trinison, Tim Hortons, Cogeco, Mattamy e B h t u l l s i F amp YMCA C Homes, Pizza Pizza, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793, Hauser and Oakville Hydro. Additional sponsors are still being sought and anyone interested can call 905-257-5555 for more information. Celebrate Oakville is looking for volunteers to help run the festival.
