Oakville hospital receives $2.4M to cover its moving costs The new Oakville hospital got a $2.4 million boost to help with its moving day scheduled for sometime in December 2015. Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) received the one-time funding from the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) to assist with the transition costs in preparing for the big move. "There is a tremendous amount of work ahead of us in order to prepare the entire organization for the transition to the new facility," Denise Hardenne, HHS executive vice-president, said in a press release. "We will be moving to a building three times the size of the current hospital that has a new, modern design and advanced technologies. There are going to be a lot of changes to the way we work and how we provide care and we have to be ready." The transition -- a process called operational readiness -- includes planning for new equipment purchases, policy and procedure revisions, staff, physician and volunteer recruitment, training and orientation, and co-ordination of moveday activities. "This work will ensure that on opening day all the necessary equipment, technology and supplies are in place and that staff know where everything is and how to use it -- so they can focus on their patients and providing the same great care they did at the old hospital," Hardenne said. The new Oakville hospital, currently under construction at Dundas Street and Third Line, will replace the existing Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH). It will have the capacity for 457 inpatient beds and offer a full range of acute healthcare services, including complex continuing care rehabilitation, renal dialysis, acute inpatient care, maternal child care and inpatient and outpatient adult, child and adolescent mental health services.
