Festival to be venue to profile emerging Canadian artists continued from p.1 sent a broad section of musical styles, which is what the organizers wanted for the festival. Cross-section of musical styles Announced, so far, have been Kathleen Edwards (alternative country, folk), Hannah Georgas (pop), and The Treasures (roots rock) for Friday; 54-40 (alternative rock), Elliott BROOD (alternative country, folk), Lindi Ortega (alternative rock, folk), and Plants and Animals (rock) on Saturday; and Corb Lund (country) on Sunday. A few other names have also been released, without dates. They are Jane's Party (rock), Devin Cuddy (jazz, blues, rock) and Sam Cash (rock, folk). "We're trying to diversify and reach out to as many people as we can with different kinds of musical taste," he said. "We also want to be known as a place where up-and-coming and emerging Canadian bands can play at a high profile setting like the Waterfront main stage... It gives them a real good opportunity playing for a lot of people at a real, major venue." Aside from the main stage, there will also be a community stage featuring local talent on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to music, there will be gourmet food courtesy of an entire street of Ontario Food Trucks. Returning features to this year's festival include a vendor village showcasing local artisans, amusement rides, activities for all ages and local craft breweries. Smith expects a good turnout considering the event is free and the quality of musicians who will be performing. "A lot of the free festivals don't have the same profile of music that we're putting on so we're hoping this will attract a lot of people who will be happy to see these folks for free," he said. Visit www.oakvillewaterfrontfestival.ca for the most up-to-date listing of performers and for more information. Organizers remind people parking will be limited and they should consider alternate transportation or to carpool to reduce traffic congestion. Oakville Transit will be offering shuttle buses to Coronation Park from the Oakville and Bronte GO stations. There will also be a bike corral where cyclists can leave their bikes for free. 3 | Wednesday, July 17, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com OUTDOOR LIVING VISIT OUR 15,000 SQ. FT.
