Brian Bowman pitched a complete-game shutout in the District 1 final as Oakville blanked the High Park Braves 9-0 at Martino Park in Dundas. "Every player has a dream to get to the Little League World Series," said Geoff Hospital, the Whitecaps' head coach. "This was a total team effort from start to finish." The Whitecaps opened the provincial championships Sunday with a 5-0 loss to East Nepean, meaning Oakville cannot afford a loss the rest of the tournament under the doubleelimination format. Oakville bounced back Monday with a 16-0 rout of the Windsor South Canadians. The Whitecaps were scheduled to face Cornwall last night (Tuesday). The champion of the Major provincials will advance to the national championships in Nova Scotia, where the Canadian representative in the Little League World Series will be determined. Other members of the 12U Whitecaps are Jack Swanson, Nicholas Jaeggin, Nathan Shute, Alex Marquez, Michael Cummings, Emily Baxter, Steven Hospital, Matthew DeMita, Bern Tabuyog, Daniel Symonds and James St. Louis. Winless Longhorns finish NFC season Saturday The Oakville Longhorns will conclude the Northern Football Conference season Saturday with a 6 p.m. game against the Ottawa Invaders at Bronte Athletic Field. Oakville needs a victory over the 5-2 Invaders in order to avoid finishing the season without a win. The Longhorns fell to 0-6-0-1 (winslosses-ties-OT losses) with a 58-14 loss to the Durham Hawkeyes last Saturday at Bronte. Eric Dowling and Mack Blewett scored touchdowns in the loss to Durham, when the Longhorns outgained the Hawkeyes 212-116 in yards through the air but were gored 293-47 on the ground. Dowling's TD came on a 10-yard pass from Blewett, who was also intercepted three times. Marco Pereira had three tackles on defence for Oakville. The previous week, the Longhorns came the closest they have come all season to securing a victory, dropping a 3534 overtime decision to the host Sudbury Spartans. Blewett threw touchdown passes to David Stopa, Lindell Merraro and Eric Dowling -- the latter coming in overtime -- and also ran for a pair of majors. The Longhorns missed the convert on their overtime score, however, setting the table for Sudbury to win the game with a converted touchdown on its next possession. Richard Lewis made a game-high six tackles for the Longhorns versus Sudbury. In the upcoming NFC playoffs, Sault Ste. Marie will face Sudbury, Tri City will play Sarnia, Montreal will take on the Toronto Raiders and Durham will clash with Ottawa in the opening round.
