Town plans to be in clean-up mode for weeks continued from p.5 damaged," said Mark. "I'd say we are definitely going to be in clean-up mode for the next couple of weeks." The Oakville Fire Department was also kept busy during the storm responding to calls connected to falling trees and downed power lines. Oakville Fire Prevention Officer Michael Harrison was representing the Oakville Fire Department at the Midnight Madness event (which was ultimately cancelled) when the storm hit. "There was a lot of sand being whipped up by the wind and a lot of people had sand in their hair and their eyes. "One eavestrough from a building got blown off and was like two storeys up flying over our heads," said Harrison. "Chairs from Midnight Madness went flying." Harrison said the group from the Oakville Fire Department had to struggle to take their tent down so it would not be carried away by the wind. The fire truck, initially intended as a display for the event, had to be moved to keep the pubcalls from individual customers who were reporting trees on either the high voltage lines near their homes or on low voltage wires going into their homes," said Cassandra Umbriaco, Oakville Hydro. "The trees on the high voltage lines had yet to do enough damage to cause an interruption. They were safely removed by the Town of Oakville Forestry department crew after an Oakville Hydro crew isolated the lines and turned the power off. "The power was only off for enough time to allow the foresters to remove the trees. This only happened twice and affected no more than 60 customers each time."
