The storied Oakville team, which has played out of Burlington for the last two seasons, go into their regular season finale this Saturday, 5:30 p.m. at M.M. Robinson High School in Burlington. The ‘Horns, who are after an unprecedented 8th NFC title, put their 6-1 record up against the Sault Storm at 5-2. It’s fan appreciation day and anyone 21 years of age and younger who is wearing a football jersey will get in free. OTMH benefits from Beaver charity tourney The 21st Oakville Beaver Charity Golf Tournament, in aid of Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, will be held this,year on Wednesday, August 16 at Wyldewood Golf and Country Club. Over the past two decades, the amount of money raised in support of our community hospital stands at almost $500,000. This year, the Royal Bank Financial Group are again organizing the much anticipated tournament, with this year’s proceeds earmarked for much needed equipment in the Emergency Care department. The hard working core of Royal Bank volunteers are grateful for the continued community support. There’s absolutely no patronizing.” A program of this magnitude cannot be operated without a cast of volunteers and there is never a shortage, says DeKleer. Some helpers have been involved for years and throughout the school’s development. even sponsors have come aboard supplying everything from subs and sandwiches to the use of a van. When Dini Opitz retired 13 years ago, she volunteered to help out with the running of the sailing school and wound up as its organizer for eight'years. “It was extremely rewarding,” said Opitz over the cheers of sailors at the concluding awards ceremony. “For some of them if they’ve recently gone blind, they think life has ended. There are many things in life they can do, this helps them with their self esteem to take the helm of a boat and steer it. Greenwood, who is visually impaired, was one of 16 participants in the Bronte Harbour Yacht Club’s 24th annual sailing school for the blind. It’s a tradition that both yacht club members, who donate their time and boats, and participants, who come from throughout the GTA, would be lost without. Both students and ‘teachers’ look for-lo the week-long school with much anticipation, and many are regulars. Volunteers talk of the stoic nature of the visually impaired, the positive dcter-fun they bring to a complex sport, and the participants, of their gratitude for the club members’ generosity and the thrill of navigating the crafts. Theory, safety and practical hands-on experience are offered, but the real beauty of the program lies in the transformation of control into hands that may otherwise powerless. Many laughs arc shared and lasting friendships developed. “It’s the most incredibly rewarding thing,” smiles Vicki DeKleer, who found-
