The defeat was Oakville's second at the Major provincials. Under the double-elimination format, the Whitecaps would have needed to beat the undefeated Eagles Saturday, then again on Sunday in order to advance to the nationals in Glace Bay, N.S. Oakville's other loss at the tournament also came against East Nepean, 5-0 in the Whitecaps' opening game. Oakville rebounded to defeat the Windsor South Canadians 16-1, Cornwall River Rats 6-1, Orleans Red Sox 4-0 and host Carleton-Russell Aces 14-4 to earn a rematch with the Eagles. The Whitecaps qualified for provincials by winning the District 1 championships recently in Dundas, defeating High Park 9-0 to become the first Oakville Little League Major team in 13 years to win District 1. The nationals will determine the Canadian representative for the upcoming Little League World Series in Williamsport, P .A. Junior, Senior teams also bow out at provincials Two other Whitecaps squads -- the U14 Junior and U16 Senior teams -- also com- peted in Little League provincials last weekend in the Ottawa area. The Junior Whitecaps went 3-0 in roundrobin play to win their pool, but were eliminated with a 15-1 loss to East Nepean in the semifinals. Oakville's wins came over Windsor (10-3), the Kanata Cubs (8-7) and the Perth Royals (23-6). The Senior Whitecaps went 1-4 in their five games at provincials. Oakville lost 11-2 to Carleton-Russell, 6-4 to the Brockville Braves, 12-3 to East Nepean and 10-2 to the South Ottawa Blues before concluding the tournament with a 6-3 win over the Mississippi Sox. Minor, Big League teams eliminated earlier The U10 Minor and U18 Big League Whitecaps competed in district and provincial tournaments earlier in the season. The Oakville Minor team lost the District 1 championship game 3-2 to the High Park Braves. The Big League Whitecaps defeated the Ottawa West Crusaders 9-7 and Thunder Bay Selects 22-8 to reach the finals of the three-team provincials in Kanata, then fell 12-3 to Ottawa West. Oakville Whitecaps squads are all-star teams made up of players in the Oakville Little League system.
