For more information visit oakville.ca But when Chaisson performs in Oakville at approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday, people will hear a bit of a return to his Celtic roots as he'll play music from his fifth album, The Other Side, which features a tinge of Maritime roots and folk. Chaisson said when he performs with a full band, he ends up with a more rock-like sound, while if he's playing solo or with a backup, the sound is toned down and acoustic. In Oakville, it will be a mix of both as he'll alternate between guitar and fiddle, and have someone playing banjo and bass and another person on keyboards and organ. "Because there are no drums, it'll be a folkier vibe," Chaisson said of his performance at the Waterfront Festival. "It'll basically be my songs, but stripped down, with a more acoustic sound." He said he likes playing festivals because it helps introduce a musician to a new audience. "The whole festival scene is awesome," he said. "You're playing for people and then you get to see every other band that's playing that day or that weekend if you get to stay for the whole weekend." Chaisson said people should expect to see him in the audience once his set is finished. Smith expects a good turnout considering the event is free and the quality of musicians who will be performing. "A lot of the free festivals don't have the same profile of music that we're putting on so we're hoping this will attract a lot of people who will be happy to see these folks for free," he said. Organizers remind people parking will be limited and they should consider alternate transportation or to carpool to reduce traffic congestion.
