DeGrootes donate $500,000 to new hospital Oakville residents Michael and Carrie DeGroote have donated $500,000 to the fundraising campaign to equip the new Oakville hospital. "We are honoured to give back to the community that gives us so much in life, work and education," said DeGroote in a news release from the hospital. Oakville hospital's Urgent/Acute Care Zone in the Emergency Department will be named in their honour, to recognize the couple's generosity. The Emergency Department at the new hospital will provide unscheduled emergent, urgent and non-urgent care to residents of all ages and is designed in zones to separate patients based on their condition and acuity. The Emergency Department at OakvilleTrafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) treats 52,000 patients annually. That number is expected to grow to 72,000 by the time the new hospital opens in 2015 and 96,000 by 2024. "Thanks to the generosity of the DeGroote family, our caregivers will have the equipment they need to diagnose and treat thousand of urgent care patients every year," said Tina Triano, CEO of the Oakville Hospital Foundation, in the release. "We are grateful to Michael and Carrie for their commitment in helping us equip our new Oakville hospital." The hospital foundation is partnering with the community to fund essential equipment for Oakville's new hospital. The organization recently announced it has reached 85 per cent of its fundraising target of $60 million. 15 | Thursday, August 8, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Carrie and Michael DeGroote Buy a Blizzard today for SickKids Oakville residents will get the chance to beat the heat today all while supporting Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).
