www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, August 29, 2013 | 18 Planning for post-secondary funding should start sooner than later continued from p.13 No longer are parents only hoping their children will pursue a university education or achieve the required high grades. The most difficult part of getting a university education for many Oakville families is determining how to pay for it. Tuition, housing, food and entertainment are costly. Our world has become a very expensive place and education is most certainly a good example of that. While you are parenting your young children about setting academic goals, it may be useful to follow your own guidelines. Setting goals with children What is your goal regarding the cost of that extended education? How much should a child contribute from summer earnings during university or savings in the years before? What grants or loans are available and what level of student debt is appropriate for a university graduate to assume? What is your family decision on assisting with a second degree? These decisions reflect family values and family finances. Your children should be involved in these discussions. Children should know what is ahead of them so they can plan accordingly. Begin the thought process early It is useful to begin the thought process as early as possible so parents have an idea of how to handle the costs. A university education is big business for most families. The pressure of investing a lot of money is always lurking in the background as your child puts forth both the effort of getting accepted into university and then completing his or hers degree. Consider this a family effort under the leadership of both parents with the children becoming more involved with the process as they mature. It is a big investment of time, effort and money. We strongly encourage parents to think now about the financial burden of a university education. That thought process is best if it is started sooner rather than later. -- Submitted by Peter Watson, MBA, CFP , R.F .P ., CIM, FCSI., Certified Financial Planner MY NissaN sales eveNT FINANCING 0 84 % FOR UP TO MONTHS± TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ON SELECT ROGUE MODELS SL AWD model shown 1.6 SL Tech model shown 3.5 SL model shown AVAILABLE INTUITIVE ALL WHEEL DRIVE FINANCE A 2013 NissaN ROGUe FOR UP TO BEST-IN-CLASS TOTAL INTERIOR VOLUME FINANCE A 2014 NissaN veRsa NOTe AT BEST-IN-CLASS HIGHWAY FUEL ECONOMY FINANCE A 2013 NissaN alTiMa seDaN AT 0% 84 APR MONTHS± $ $ CASH PURCHASER'S DISCOUNTS ON OTHER SELECT ROGUE MODELS $ 5,000 ON ROGUE S FWD OR GET 84 3.9% APR BI-WEEKLY $ PER MONTH 138 1.9% APR BI-WEEKLY PER MONTH FOR STARTING FROM · 25,862 FREIGHT AND FEES INCLUDED · $1,590 DOWN STARTING FROM · $14,949 84 MONTHS FOR FREIGHT AND FEES INCLUDED · $1,998 DOWN STARTING FROM · $25,527 84 MONTHS PLUS CHOOSE FROM * 40 ¢ /L UNTIL 1 2015 OFF GAS or 2 PAYMENTS ON US2 or EXTENDED WARRANTY3 5 YEAR/100,000 KM NO CHARGE CHOOSE QUICKLY.
