John-Frederick Cameron, OFLA president, said, previously, the party's leadership office was closely involved with candidate selection, a practice Cameron did not agree with. "Those of us who share the opinion I do, felt that was a step away from the democratic process," said Cameron. "Ultimately candidates ought to be elected by their communities and their constituencies without any pressure brought to bear on that process by anyone else other than the members of the constituency association. I would argue that when we, as a party, lost favour with the Canadian public, part of the reason for that was we stopped listening.
