Honouring unsung heroes continued from p.4 Shannon, a father of three, reached out to his colleagues at work and his company agreed to match any donation he raised. In just two days, Shannon collected $1,500 with more donations on the way, which means more than $3,000 will be donated to the OMHS. "Given the short time to the collection, we are very overwhelmed and grateful," he said. "Hopefully, (it will) go a long way in helping to save these cats." Marion says another reason she and her husband are fundraising is to bring more awareness to the individuals involved in the rescue, such as Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) agent Laura Mackasey. "Laura was there (at the home) day and night rescuing those cats," she said. "We just want to honour those who always work in the background and no one really sees (what they do)." While the rescued felines must remain at the OMHS as they are part of an investigation, those interested in fostering the 290 cats already in the shelter's care can contact Heather White, OMHS manager of community outreach and education, by emailing heatherw@omhs.ca. People can also make a donation to help in the cats' care by visiting www.omhs.ca and indicating `cat rescue' in the notes sec- inside today's Editorial Sports Beaver www.insideHALTON.com 5 | Friday, September 20, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com 6 20 Artscene Classified 24 31 Home Hardware, Rabba, Marketplace, New Homes, Pita Pit, Leon's Furniture, Michael's, Jag Communications *All flyers not necessarily delivered to all homes For home delivery & customer service call 905-631-6095, 5300 Harvester Rd., Burlington New subscriptions call 905-631-6095 or subscribe online @ www.oakvillebeaver.com CONCRETE · DRIVEWAYS · FRENCH CURBS · PATIOS · STEPS · WALKWAYS · GARAGE FLOORS Andrew Shannon will run in the Oakville Half Marathon Sunday -- all for the cats. | submitted photo tion on the online donation page -- 100 per cent of the donation will be used to help the rescued cats.
