Oakville's Tyler Chacra beat out 810 other competitors to capture the half-marathon title Sunday at Coronation Park, finishing in a time of 1:15:31. Toronto's Wes Dearborn was second, 1:50 off the pace. Five of the event's six previous half-marathon champions were from Toronto, including four wins by Predrag Mladenovic (2007-09, 2011). Prior to Sunday, the best finish for an Oakville runner in the half marathon was Richard Eyram's fourth-place showing in 2011. Chacra was 10th in last year's half marathon, clocking at 1:20:20. Sulema James of Hamilton broke the event's women's half-marathon record by nearly five minutes, finishing in 1:18:58. In the 10K run, Mississauga's Sergio Raez Villanueva (33:09) and Ali Drynan of Toronto (38:08) were the men's and women's champions, respectively. More than 2,000 runners and walkers participated in this year's Oakville Half Marathon, which also featured a 10K student relay and the Whole Foods Market 2K Fun Run/ Walk. The event raised more than $40,000 for its charitable partners, including the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada, Oakville Hospital Foundation, YMCA of Oakville, Kerr Street Ministries, Reach for the Rainbow, Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada -- Halton Chapter, CameronHelps, Canadian Diabetes Association, The Lighthouse Program for Grieving Children, The Arthritis Society and The Oakville Literacy Council. "We are very pleased with the turnout this year," said Krystal Duz, race organizer from Landmark Sport Group. "The weather was perfect for our runners... The community support was outstanding and the volunteers were fantastic. Our race continues to grow every year. With increased numbers comes a stronger pool of competition, a wider range of recreational runners and more people fundraising." Nutrience was the title sponsor of this year's Oakville Half Marathon. Other sponsors included Running Room, Whole Foods Market, Acura of Oakville, SUBWAY Restaurants, The Oakville Beaver, TV Cogeco, Aquafina, Gatorade and AMJ Campbell Van Lines.
