continued from p.1 Set for Dec. 1, the fundraising walk/run will be held at Sheridan College's Oakville campus, 1430 Trafalgar Rd. Participants will meet in the `S' wing (SCAET) atrium and have the choice of a onekilometre, 2k or 5k route. "Everyone who registers will get a pair of jingle bells to wear, so while they're running or walking, there will be some jingling too," said Catrambone. "It's just a fun way to usher in the holiday season." Participants will also receive an Arthritis Society branded buff and are encouraged to don their festive gear to show off their holiday spirit -- the day will also include entertainment and lunch. There will be prizes for those who raise $100 or more, and anyone who brings in a Participants to wear jingle bells and herald the cause new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots or a nonperishable food item for Fareshare food bank will be entered into a draw. Organizers are expecting 100-150 participants and hoping to raise $30,000 for the inaugural run, which is expected to become an annual event. Funds raised during the Jingle Bell Walk and Run will be used to support the Arthritis Society's health and wellness programs, such as chronic pain management workshops, as well as fund education initiatives and research. The Arthritis Society's mandate is to work towards a future without arthritis and provides education programs and support to more than 4.6 million Canadians living with the condition. Since being founded in 1948, the Arthritis Society has invested more than $180 million in research projects in Canada towards advancing diagnoses, treatments and care of those affected. While arthritis is often perceived as a condition among seniors, 56 per cent of Canadians affected are under the age of 65. Registration for the Jingle Bell Run and Walk begins at 9 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. start. Costs to register is $30 for adults, $15 for children under the age of 12, and $20 for students -- there are early-bird discounted rates for those who register before Oct. 15.
