In 2005, Pindal earned an Emmy Award for Outstanding Children's Animated Program for the program. Pindal, who was born in 1927, began his career as an underground cartoonist during the German occupation of Denmark and was forced to flee his home city of Copenhagen when he created a series of anti-Hitler cartoons Local talents recognized that put his life in danger. After the Second World War, Pindal made animated commercials in Sweden and Denmark, and worked on UNESCO films and filmstrips. His NFB credits also include The City: Osaka, created for Expo '70 in Osaka, Japan, and designed to give Japanese people a glimpse into Canadian life. Pindal himself is the subject of a 1979 NFB documentary entitled Laugh Lines. His recognition on Thursday came with the presentation of a sculpture in his likeness -- not the first given to him, but the most recent.
