Blades sandwich victories around lopsided loss in Aurora; Hornets win first games of year The Oakville Blades won two of three games last weekend to improve to 8-5 on the Ontario Junior Hockey League season. Oakville blanked the Toronto Jr. Canadiens 2-0 Friday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, fell 7-1 to the Aurora Tigers Saturday in Aurora and edged the Milton IceHawks 5-4 Sunday in Milton. Sean Kohler and Ross Sloan scored Oakville's goals Friday, with Evan Buitenhuis recording the shutout. Buitenhuis also turned away a Toronto penalty shot in the second period, when the Blades held a 1-0 lead. Saturday, the Blades were outshot 50-26 as Brendan McGlynn and Buitenhuis split time in net. Dalton Bew scored the lone Oakville marker. The Blades benefitted from nine powerplay chances -- making good on one of them , in their victory over Milton. Ryan Garvey scored twice and Chris Polotek, Zack Dybowski and Bew potted singles as Oakville built a 5-2 lead in the third period, then held off an IceHawks rally. Buitenhuis made 27 saves to earn the victory, and Kamil Tkaczuk and Sloan contributed a pair of helpers each. Oakville is scheduled to play two games this weekend. The Blades will host the Buffalo Jr. Sabres Friday at Sixteen Mile (7:30 p.m.), then visit the Jr. Canadiens Sunday. Hornets back to .500 Tera Hofmann stopped all 19 shots she faced Saturday, recording the shutout in the Oakville Hornets' 1-0 victory over the London Devilettes at Joshua's Creek Arenas. Christina Putigna scored the game-winning goal in the second period Sunday for the Hornets, who also defeated the Bluewater Hawks Friday and are now 2-2-2 on the Provincial Women's Hockey League season. Emma Maltais paced Oakville against Bluewater, scoring once and adding three assists. Lauren Patterson and Putigna both had a goal and a helper, Lauren Carroll and Jazz Kennedy also tallied, and Kirsten Miller had two assists.
