"Attending the Gatsby Gala will support JDRF and help fund a cure for Type 1 diabetes (T1D) as we support the 300,000 families diagnosed in Canada alone," said Seana O'Neill, JDRF regional manager for south central Ontario. "We are celebrating the JDRF and Oakville/ Mississauga community residents with a local gala that we look forward to building on each year with the incredible supporters we have." Etalk host Devon Soltendieck will MC the gala at the 540 Lakeshore Rd. Last year's inaugural event saw 110 attendees and raised $110,000 for diabetes research. This year, O'Neill says organizers are expecting 175 guests and hope to match last year's fundraising. All proceeds will go towards the JDRF and its Canadian Clinical Trial Network, which focuses on testing and research to advance the technologies in managing and caring for T1D and eventually curing the disease. The JDRF's fundraising activities, which include runs, bike rides and galas, raise approximately $25 million a year. Canada is also a part of JDRF International, which spends about $140 million per year on T1D research in 40 countries around the world. Individual tickets cost $100, with a $45 tax receipt per ticket, while a Friends of JDRF ticket package -- new this year -- costs $1,000 and includes 10 tickets and two bonus tickets, a $450 tax receipt and logo acknowledgement in the evening's program guide.
