Oakville resident Nazir Akbari was sentenced to eight years in prison for manslaughter, Tuesday, for fatally stabbing Christopher Stairs, 31, also of Oakville, during an altercation on Jan. 22, 2011. Around 11 p.m. that night, Stairs and a friend had left a house party and were walking in the area of John and Kerr streets when they crossed paths with Akbari, then 18, who was accompa- nied by three friends. It is not clear who said what, but a few insults led to a physical fight between the two groups, which ended when Akbari pulled a knife and stabbed the unarmed Stairs twice in the neck causing the latter to bleed to death. Akbari and his friends fled the scene following the stabbing. One of his friends, Angar Langer, then 18, took the knife from Akbari and threw it on top of a nearby roof.
