Abbey Park High School students are once again hoping to scare away hunger as they collect canned goods tonight (Thursday) on Halloween for the Fareshare food bank. "We are doing this to support Fareshare at this time of year, when they are in need of restocking the shelves," said Chloe Hamilton, a Grade 11 Abbey Park student and one of the organizers of the school's We Scare Hunger initiative, along with Sara Lian, Hannah Weiler, Sydney Cook, Victoria Ramirez and Elise Lum-You. The annual We Scare Hunger campaign, formerly known as Halloween for Hunger, gets youth to think about local hunger issues and on every Oct. 31, young people go out to collect food for the hungry and impoverished. Tonight, more than 150 Abbey Park students will "scare up" donations and pack up a truck tomorrow (Nov. 1) to deliver it to Fareshare -- Rawlinson Moving donated a truck to be used to transport all the canned goods collected. "We Scare Hunger is a great way for us to take action and to learn more about the issues around hunger and poverty taking place right here in Oakville," said Hamilton.
