- This grain threshing machine was on the farm of the Smith family sometime in about the early 1920s. Most farmers would not have purchased their own thresher but arranged with the owner to come in turn to their farm. The man near the rear of the machine is likely Arthur Albert Smith. The Smith farm was possibly the owner of this thresher.
This thresher has distinctive wood ornamentation which identified the manufacturer. Later models had less decoration and those were tin.
This machine would have been accompanied by a steam engine, likely also horse-drawn. The steam engine was kept away from the thresher and grain to ensure sparks would not start a fire. On the thresher, behind the man in front, the long belt which connected the thresher to the steam engine is coiled. - Subject(s)
