True east coast experience at gourmet seafood market The Mermaid and the Oyster Gourmet Fish Market is known as Oakville's true east coast experience, and with a scrumptious and lengthy menu of fresh fish every day, it's easy to see why. Particularly popular at this time of year are the fruits of the sea platters stocked with lobster, crab, oyster and other delectable high end seafood. The gourmet seafood market is still taking orders for this seasonal favourite until December 23. The bistro establishment exudes a genuine down home, east coast atmosphere; everything is homemade and veggies are sliced and diced the old-fashioned way. The fish market attracts regular customers who pop in on a daily basis for bowls of hearty chowder, such as Mermaid chowder full of Alaskan halibut and clams, or perhaps lobster fettucine, a lobster BLT or lobster rolls. Another popular dish during the festive season is the lobster steamer dinner, a full lobster dinner prepared and packed. It includes your starter choice of the following: steamed mussels in garlic sauce, fresh shucked oysters, mini crab cakes or jumbo shrimp cocktail. The main dinner includes fresh prepared The Wells family -- with help from friends and neighbours -- built a mountain of toys Sunday morning.
