The new series of $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 polymer bills are very hard to duplicate illegally, says the Bank of Canada, but there remains a problem with people faking older paper notes. The switch to the sturdier polymer notes from the traditional paper ones started a couple of years ago, but many of the latter still exist, though they are being withdrawn from circulation. Halton police are reminding people to pay close attention to the paper bills they receive as numerous counterfeit $20 paper bills from the most recent series (with a metallic stripe) have been passed in Halton in the last few weeks. Police did not specify where in Halton. Of cers are advising retailers and members of the public to check for two or more security features on the older $20 bills. see Know on p.10 Oakville re ghters Erin McNally, left, and Jason Barrett, were among the Oakville Professional Fire ghters Association (OPFFA) contingent that took Santa to pay their annual Christmas visit to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Tuesday. This was the 25th year the association has delivered Santa, toys and good cheer to the pediatrics ward and others at the Reynolds Street hospital. Here, McNally and Barrett and Santa spend some time with twins Morgan and Jackson Neiser, who appear to be taking a peek at the holiday hoopla, which has become a tradition supported by the annual Oakville Fire ghters Toy Drive, founded by re ghters Tim Draper, Jake Lowe and Don Davis in the wake of the annual Santa Parade 25 years ago.
