Animal Aid grants available Applications for the Animal Aid Foundation grant are open. Every year since its inception in 2006, the foundation has provided funding to local animal charities through money raised at its special events, such as Christmas Gifts for Pets, and public donations. This year's grant is partly funded by a bequest to the foundation -- a first for Animal Aid. "Animal Aid takes its responsibility of ensuring donated funds are used effectively , very seriously ," said Pina De Menna, foundation president. Charities applying for funding must complete an application and include how much money the organization is requesting and its intended use. Recipients must also sign a letter of agreement stating the grant will be used for the purposes given and submit a final report on how it was used. The volunteer-run foundation gives out grants up to five per cent of an organization's operating budget, as well as $1,000-spay/neuter grants to charities with paid staff. Application forms are due no later than Jan. 15, 2014.
