Legal debate is breaking hearts continued from p.8 "It breaks our hearts because we know he's old enough to understand that we've left him," said the 42-year-old, describing her situation as an emotional rollercoaster. "We left him with a book of us, by the time we left he was saying mamma and papa. We made a promise we'd go back and when we made that promise, in our hearts we firmly believed we would be back in six weeks to get him. It never occurred to us this situation would happen." She said she worries about his chance to be a part of a loving family, explaining he could be adopted internationally as no Russian family could be found to take him in. "As he gets older, it scares us to think that his chances of getting adopted are less and less each day," said Fox, holding back tears. Showing the pirate-themed room that was already prepared in anticipation of his arrival, Fox admitted she and her husband didn't foresee any of the challenges that have presented in the final stages of adoption. However, Fox said she and her husband are fighters and are hopeful their story will reach Russia and they'll be able to bring Dylan "home." "If they (Russia) had no intention of granting us this child, why did they let us meet him? Why did they let us travel?" Another family, affected by Russia's legal decision, is Oakville's Sherry and Derek Wilson. They, too, have asked Harper to intervene. Sherry Wilson, Oakville resident from Russia, the couple was confident after meeting one-year-old Charlotte Angelica last July that they would be welcoming her into their home over the next few months. "In our hearts, this is our child and we know we can give her a wonderful home, opportunity and unconditional love," said Sherry. She explained how the last few months have been emotional and frustrating. There isn't an existing law right now that can keep Charlotte from her and her husband, she said, but their judge is telling them they need to provide a bilateral agreement with the two countries by Jan. 31 in order for him to provide them custody. The trouble is that bilateral agreements take more than a few months to negotiate. The couple hopes that by sharing their story publicly, they'll get some resolve.
