Town parks and trails remain closed in the wake of December's ice storm. Some conservation areas have re-opened, as have some areas of Bronte Creek Provincial Park. Residents are still facing challenges though as the Town seeks to be declared a disaster area. Halton Region halted waste collection Jan. 7 due to frigid cold temperatures dangerous for outdoor workers like the unidentified collection worker at left. By the weekend, mild air created a January thaw, as temperatures soared to 7C on Saturday, making it feel almost balmy after the Arctic Vortex last week. Yet, with the warm air, much of Oakville was covered in dense fog. At centre, homeowner Dennis Masotti spent a good part of Saturday morning chipping away the ice on his driveway and sidewalk on Trevor Drive, hoping to get the standing water flowing. At right, Paul Leon, a contractor with Halton Region, collected recyclables along Waterford Street, donning a T-shirt to do the job rescheduled to Saturday from earlier in the week.
