Flynn chairs local budget consultations continued from p.6 While we have made significant improvements such as widening the QEW in Oakville and 30-minute, allday GO Transit service, much remains to be done and Premier Kathleen Wynne is tackling this issue and providing excellent leadership. The Progressive Conservative Party apparently decided its time would be better spent staging a stunt at a local gas station to talk about its plans for gas taxes. Oakville citizens would do well to note that the Tim Hudak PCs have no plans for transit or highway expansion and the last time the (PCs) ran GO Transit, they put the cost on the property tax bills of Oakville taxpayers. Halton Region told the Oakville Beaver 614 cards were distributed, including eight in Oakville, 19 in Burlington, and 37 in Milton. Areas in north Halton incurred significant impact and damage from the ice storm and accordingly, there were 284 cards distributed in Acton and 266 in Georgetown. The Region says this represents more than 85 per cent of the total vouchers provided to Halton from the provincial government. Cards were handed out at Salvation Army food banks across Halton from Jan. 8-10 to families and individuals with appropriate documentation. Families received a $100 card, while individuals were provided one worth $50. The Beaver was told last week leftover cards would be returned to the Province.
