At 10 a.m., we will meet at the Hide House parking lot and will march off at 10:30 a.m., to the Cenotaph for our Remembrance Day Service. After the parade we will gather at the Branch in the main hall with the service starting at 12:30 p.m., and a roast beef dinner served at 1:15 p.m. Parents please remember that this year Remembrance Day falls on a Sunday. In past years Acton school children attended our Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph. This year the schools are closed. It is very hard to arrange for the students to come out with it being on a Sunday. We would appreciate you bringing your children for the Remembrance Day service in honour of all veterans. So please try to come out for our service on November 11 at 11 a.m. The veterans really enjoy seeing the children in attendance. The Childrens' Christmas Party takes place December 9. Remember the cut off date is November 12. Only children of 2012 paid up members of Branch and Auxiliary will be eligible for Santa's gifts. Grandchildren not included. Our next entertainment is on November 9 in the games room. John McKinnon will be playing from 7 to 11 p.m. Everyone is welcome so come out and enjoy. Our next general meeting will be held on November the 12 at 8 p.m., sharp. Please remember to turn your clock's back one hour late Saturday night. Last Wednesday night, I finished work at my Queen's Park office at about 7:30, and headed for home. On the way, I stopped in at the grocery store in Acton, as I often do. "How are you enjoying your holiday?" someone asked. I replied that I was decidedly NOT on holiday, but that the Premier had prorogued the Provincial Legislature... meaning he'd shut it down until further notice. Adding that I would still be working in our Riding and at Queen's Park in the coming weeks did little to dispel her disappointment. Many of our residents in Wellington-Halton Hills are more than just disappointed: they are angry at this latest, cynical move by the Liberal Government to stifle debate in the Ontario Legislature. With the House prorogued, there is no daily Question Period, which holds the Government to account. No new legislation is introduced. The people's elected representatives from all three parties cannot gather to discuss the important questions of the day. AllParty Standing Committees of the Legislature do not meet. No laws are passed. Behind closed doors, the business of the Provincial Government continues. But Members of Provincial Parliament do not assemble together to debate it. At a time when the Province is facing a staggering $14.4-billion deficit and a growing provincial debt, a stagnating economy with an unemployment rate of eight percent, unanswered questions about the cost of cancelling the Oakville and Mississauga gas-fired electricity plants, and turmoil in some of our schools, the Ontario Legislature should be in session. When the lights are dimmed in the Ontario Legislature, the light of democracy in our province is dimmed as well. ****** Our Ontario PC Caucus has released "Paths to Prosperity: An Agenda for Growth," the latest in a series of White Papers, intended to present a comprehensive plan for the future direction of our Province. We believe that Ontario can lead again, and have offered constructive ideas to encourage job creation and economic growth. All of our White Paper proposals can be found at: http://www.ontariopc.com/ paths-to-prosperity/ ****** On October 4, I took the opportunity to speak in the Legislature, updating MPPs on the progress we are making with the Georgetown Hospital project. I again expressed gratitude for the provincial grant we were promised. Afterwards, I publicly thanked everyone who participated in the fifth Annual Walk for Georgetown Hospital fundraiser. It is events like these that bring out the very best of our community. We are grateful for all the work being done by everyone associated with the hospital. ****** Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott welcomes your comments. He can be reached at 1-800-265-2366. His website address is www. tedarnottmpp.com Branch no. 197 Legion news By Sharon Graham P.R.O. Comrades, On behalf of the Legion we would like to send our condolences to Pat McCutcheon and family. Gord was well known to the community for all the work he has done. He was on the building committee for our Legion in 1974. Gord was also our past-president and a Life Member of the Branch. He will be missed. It is hard to believe that this week is just filled with rain. I think we have had our Indian summer. Last week was beautiful. Just think a little more than two weeks away will be our annual Santa Claus parade. Our entertainment last Saturday was very nice. Norm Mason played for all of the members in the games room. On November 1, the Ladies Auxiliary will have their general meeting at 7:30 p.m., sharp. The LA zone commander Sheila Hicks will be visiting. Just a reminder that the Branch is having a farewell party for George and Alice DeRabbie. They are going to be moving back home to Nova Scotia, and we want to give them a send off. The party is on November 3 in the main hall at 8 p.m. We are hoping to see all of the members there. This is an open event and all are welcome. It will be a pot luck so if you can attend and bring something that would be great. Please contact Sharon Graham. The email is sharong@creativenetworkingsolutions. com or contact the Branch and leave a message and I will get right back to you. Sunday, November 11 is www.actonhead2toe.com
