Irish dancers to compete on world stage Oakville's Goggin-Carroll School of Irish Dance will be competing on the world stage in April. The troupe, which includes dancers from not only Oakville, but also Burlington and Mississauga, will head to the World Irish Dance Championships in London, England from April 13-20. Goggin-Carroll School Director Barb Goggin-Wade says the dancers have been training every day to represent Oakville and Canada with pride. "It's an honour to travel to London and the dancers are training to make the most of this prestigious opportunity," she said. The team is comprised of 31 Irish dancers from Goggin-Carroll's two locations in Oakville and Windsor, Ont. Of that, 20 dancers hail from the Oakville school and 13 are Oakville residents. They qualified for the international competition at the Eastern Canadian Regional Oireachtas held in Montreal in November 2013. Before they head to London, they'll be hosting The Claddagh Ball Saturday (Feb. 22) to raise funds for their travel expenses. The ball, which celebrates friendship, loyalty and love, takes place at the Burlington Convention Centre, 1120 Burloak Dr. It features dancing, dinner and a silent auction.
