For most of those watching -- afforded that one-time privilege by an understanding teacher in the name of patriotism -- the comeback victory was certainly cause to celebrate. For Bach, it was something more. Seeing seven gradu- Victoria Bach ates of the Provincial Women's Hockey League (PWHL) -- which she's currently dominating -- wearing the red and white, the 17-year-old Milton resident admits the notion `that could be me someday' did cross her mind. "Yeah I would have to say it (Olympics) is a goal for me, especially seeing so many former (PWHL) players on the team now. That makes me want to work even harder," said the Grade 12 student, who leads PWHL scoring with 34 goals and 31 assists in 32 games. "I watched the game and thought I do have the opportunity for that. The 2018 Games in South Korea would probably be a little soon for me. I'd say the ones after that would probably be more realistic." Mentioning Bach and the Olympics in the same breath might seem a tad premature. Or is it? Riding a sharp upwards trajectory in hockey over the past couple of years, the gifted centre has netted two Under-18 national gold medals with the Ontario program -- playing on the second-entry Blue squad in 2012 upset victory before being promoted to the Red for last fall's unbeaten title run -- and is the offensive cornerstone of a Mississauga Chiefs team that sits just four points out of first in the 20-team PWHL with just one week remaining before the playoffs. A strong track record of team success was no doubt part of what put her on many NCAA programs' radar, including Boston University, where she verbally committed to last weekend. "I went down there for a visit and basically I fell in love with the place. Boston is so beautiful and they have a strong graphic design program that I wanted," explained Bach, who'll be joined by fellow PWHL standout Rebecca Leslie of Ottawa this coming fall and Chiefs teammate Kelly Mariani the following year. "I'm kind of nervous about next season, but at the same time excited about what lies ahead." As of last week, Bach had amassed 20 multi-point games this season and scored two or more goals on a dozen occasions. That shot her up to fourth in both career goals (80) and all-time points (151) in the league record books (which don't include stats from the inaugural 2004-05 season). Not preoccupied with her record books rise, Bach seems to take as much pride in her recent defensive improvements as her weekly scoring exploits. "I'm on the smaller side, so I've really had to try to get stronger, especially in the corners," Bach noted, pointing to her increased time on the penalty kill (with a league-leading five shorthanded goals) as evidence of a more well-rounded game now. "Honestly I don't keep track of the stats that much. I'm a pretty competitive person, but I just really want to go out there and win every game."
