6 THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 2013 DIVERSE DUFFERIN CENTRE: From soccer to pole walking, mornings at the Dufferin Rural Heritage Centre are even busier now that the Prospect Park facility is open five days a week from 9:30 a.m. to noon. ­ Melissa Paul photos 32 drunk drivers charges in Halton R.I.D.E. program Region-wide, 32 Halton motorists were charged with drinking and driving offences during the Halton police holiday R.I.D.E (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program. In One District ­ Acton, Georgetown and Milton ­ nine people were charged with having over 80-milligrams of alcohol in 100-millilitres of blood, and four were charged with impaired. That's a 50 per cent drop in the number of impaired charges over the previous year, and the same number of over 80 charges. Region-wide Halton police stopped 18,538 vehicles, administered 401 roadside breath tests resulting in 355 passes, 33 warnings, 13 fails, 26 three-day suspensions, four seven-day suspensions, 30 over 80 charges and 12 impaireds. In One district, police stopped 5.872 vehicles, administered 125 tests which results in 103 passes, 14 warnings, eight fails, nine three-day suspensions, two seven-day suspicions, nine over 80 charges and four impaireds. Branch no. 197 On New Year's Day we had the President's Levee and it was a great day. Members looked at our bulletin board and guess what? There were no names on our sick list. We hope that this year will be better than last as we lost so many members and dear friends. We would like to thank Troy and Jesse for a great afternoon of entertainment, and also some of our members who got up and sang. They were all great. This past weekend was our zone cribbage competition and we have two teams that are going on to District. They are John Wagg, Bob Service, Bill Service, Bob Hastie, J.J. The January meeting was held with 24 members present, and Sharon Graham won the door prize. Sports events coming up are darts January 12 in Bramalea. Euchre is on January 19 in Cooksville. The qualifying round of darts is January 26 with Acton hosting. Euchre is February 9 in Milton ­ contact Norma if you are attending. The Branch executive is holding an Appreciation Dinner for the Ladies Auxiliary for all the hard work they have done over the year. For all our members who knew Rose Green from Brampton, her mother Hazel, who was 94, passed away last week. To all our members who are sick and shut-in we are thinking about you. POLICE / FIRE IMPAIRED ARRESTS Two Acton residents were charged with impaired driving and with having over 80-milligrams of alcohol in 100-millitres of blood. On Thursday, a 56-year-old woman was charged following a routine traffic stop on 17 Side Road, near Highway 25. On Friday, a 52-year-old Acton man was charged after an alert citizen called police to report an erratic driver in the area of Highway 7 and 22 Side Road. FUR BUILD-UP A large accumulation of dog hair in the area of a dryer is believed to be the reason for the smell of smoke in a residence on 17 Side Road and the Sixth Line on December 23. Acton firefighters found no evidence of any burning in or around the dryer. The homeowner was advised to replace a plastic dryer vent pipe before using the dryer gain. PATIENT ASSISTANCE An Acton firefighter rode with ambulance staff to help transport a Wright Avenue resident who required medical assistance to hospital on December 21 just after 6 p.m. CAVE IN LEAK A trench caved in causing a natural gas leak in the Bower Avenue/ John Street area at 5:18 on December 17. The cave-in severed a half-inch residential gas line from the main two-inch feeder line.
