Hate sticker charge A 35-year-old Acton man was charged with eight counts of careless use/unsafe storage of a firearm and ammunition, and two counts of mischief to property in what Halton police describe as a "hate-motivated" incident. Police said the charges were laid after the man defaced a police cruiser with a sticker associated with promoting hate on December 22 while police were investigating another matter at an Acton residence. An investigation led to a search warrant being executed at that residence on January 9, and the suspect was arrested, charged and held until January 11 when he was released on bail with a February 11 return court date. Police said seven non-restricted long guns were seized, along with ammunition. Police would not comment on the sticker, except to say it was not homemade, and it promoted hate. Halton police said they actively investigate any hate-motivated matters and encourage people to promptly report any incidents. Acton teen charged A 16-year-old Acton teen was charged with uttering threats, assault and causing a disturbance by fighting following an incident at the Guelph Street Georgetown McDonald's last Tuesday morning. Police responded to a report of two male youths fighting and found the accused had confronted a Georgetown male, who did not want to fight, in the restaurant. The accused lunged at the Georgetown teen, pulled him from the booth and hit him several times, but did not cause any injury.
